How a Handmade Clay Bridal Bouquet Is Made, Petal by Petal

Every petal shaped by hand, one at a time.

There is no mold in my studio doing this work for me.

Every flower in a Clay Orchids bouquet begins as a small piece of clay in my palm, and becomes a petal between my fingers.

One petal at a time

I roll the clay thin, the way you would roll pastry, until light almost passes through it. Then I shape it. Each petal is pressed, curved, and softened at the edges by hand, because a real petal is never perfectly flat and never perfectly even, and those tiny imperfections are exactly what makes a flower look alive.

A single bloom can take many petals, each one shaped separately, each one a little different from the last. Just like a garden.

Building the bloom

When the petals are ready, I build the flower the way nature does, from the center outward. Buds stay tight. Open blooms relax. My signature tiny crown blossoms, the ones brides have loved for fourteen years, come together blossom by blossom, many of them finished with a pearl center.

Leaves are shaped and veined by hand, too. Nothing arrives pre-made. If it is in your bouquet, it passed through my hands.

Becoming a bouquet

Only when every flower is finished do I arrange them, balancing height, softness, and color the way a florist would, except this arrangement will never droop, never brown, and never need water. The stems are bound, the bouquet is finished, and it is ready to be carried down the aisle.

And then, this is the part I love most, it does not get thrown away on Sunday. It goes home. On a shelf, in a shadow box, in your hands again on your anniversary. I make it to become the one piece of the wedding day you keep forever, exactly as it was.

Why it matters that it's slow

I learned this craft by myself, years ago, because I wished I knew how. Fourteen years later, I still make every piece the slow way. A handmade clay bouquet is not the fastest option, and it is not the cheapest.

It is the one that lasts.

If you are dreaming of a bouquet made only for you, your flowers, your colors, your day, kept forever, I would be honored to make it.
